Actually, how people handle truth is just step one of my introduction. After episodes of exaggeration, even lying, begin to establish a myth, a community of disbelievers gathers around whatever myth-of-choice appeals to them, creating a non-existent alternate "truth", which then serves as a rebel calling card. In other words, they try to form a club. Ho Hum.
At this point, members of the disbelief club, will begin to preach to others, hoping to "help the world". This is the ages-old proselytizing phenomenon, of which the Essenes, the Daoists, and Christ are just a few examples. None of these communities-of-millennium helped anything at all. They were all, in the end, 100% ephemeral. They were skeptic's clubs. They were activism societies. They were discrimination cadres, bent on dividing humankind into the sleepers (ignorant, unblessed, potential converts or slaves) and into the elect (those who bought the enabling myth, as literal truth). The plan , seemingly noble to its perpetrators, could only stem from their biologically limited innately human inner resource, and so devolved into hubris, attack, enslavement, and dictatorship. Woops! Monkeys will be monkeys, and these "true believers" in the end did nothing more than start a NEW false orthodoxy, to defeat an OLD false orthodoxy, all with lots of venom, agitation, self important delusion, and "absolute certainty". Nothing ever changed.
The very best systemic safeguards possible to human beings, are in existence at America's nuclear plants, no human entity or methodology could do it any better. Therefore ..what? If, as you say, we need ignorant civilian members of disbelief clubs incessantly interrupting the process to promulgate club myths, ghost stories, and chicken little feeding frenzies, then it would appear to me that the major thrust of progressivism is now anti-historical, inwardly seeking a non-existent former time (prior to high energy physics), and a delusional existence within non-existence. Living for a fable. Enjoy it. It empowers you . You feel important, dissing nuclear. Great.
However, the lying 'n' crying also acts to doom all citizens to a dark age of less, of retreat, of international deference, and a loathing for both science and optimism. This menu of backward agendae , when viewed in its totality, is clearly a pathology. It's sick.
We must trust those who dedicate their lives to medicine to be competent healers. We must trust those who dedicate their lives to study to be adequate educators. We must trust those who dedicate their lives to providing electric power to be competent, honest, and capable. If we breed a total mistrust of all institutions we will subject society, our society, to an acid bath of paranoia, weakening it , so that our future existence will be faced with the choice of being led by others' agendae, or entering a dark age. If we reject nuclear power, the race will go extinct.
Actually the process is in train as we speak. Enjoy your future, it is you, who will determine how good it is. Meanwhile some education is in order. Can you pinpoint what physical process heats the earth's core? It is Uranium 235 decay. The planet itself, and its nurturing of mankind by a beneficial environment, is nuclear at heart. Thinking religiously, we might dream a bit, and think of Gaia, whose white-hot beating heart is now known to be 100% nuclear.
